Dialup Networking Configuration
NOTE: If you are a Windows 95 user you may find that your dialogue boxes vary
slightly CONFIGURING DIAL-UP NETWORKING (DUN) ICON
TO CONNECT TO ACCESS TECHNOLOGY
1. Double-click on My Computer.

2. Double-click on the Dial-Up Networking folder.

3. Double-click on the "Make a New Connection" icon.

A dialogue box opens.

4. In the field "Type a name
for the computer you are dialing" type "Access Technology."
5. Make sure your modem is selected in the field "Select a device."
6. Click Next.

7. For "Area code:" and
"Telephone number:" type the appropriate number from the list below:
Richmond, VA 804 915-0055
NOTE: Enter the area code even if this
is a local call for you.
8. Make sure "Country or region code:' is set to "United States
of America(1)".
9. Click Next.

10. Click Finish.
A new Access Technology icon will appear in your
Dial-Up Networking folder.
II. COMPLETING THE CONFIGURATION
OF YOUR ACCESS TECHNOLOGY CONNECTION
1. Right click on the Access Technology icon.
2. Choose properties from the pop-up menu.

3. Click the General Tab:
a. Make sure the area code, phone number, and country code are correct.
b. Make sure "Use area code and Dialing Properties" is checked.

4. Click the "Server Types" tab.
a. Make sure that "Type of Dial-Up Server" is set to PPP....
b. Under "Advanced Options" uncheck anything that is checked.
c. Make sure only TCP/IP is checked under "Allowed Network Protocols".

5. Click the "TCP/IP Settings button.
a. Make sure "Server assigned IP address" is selected.
b. Make sure "Server assigned name server addresses" is selected.
c. Make sure both "User IP header compression" and "Use default gateway on remote
network" are checked.

6. Click Okay.
7. Click Okay again to return to the Dial-Up Networking folder.
8. Double-click on the Access Technology icon with your left mouse button. (Open the
Access Technology icon.)

9. Click on Dial Properties.

10. Adjust settings as necessary:
a. If you have call waiting and want to
disable it before dialing out, check "To disable call waiting, dial:" and
select the appropriate
code to disable call waiting for your phone company.
NOTE: If you do not disable call waiting, an incoming call may knock you offline.
b. Dial using Tone dial should be selected.
c. Dial as a long distance call should NOT be selected.
d. Click Area Code Rules.

11. Make sure "Always dial the area code"
is checked. (The other fields should be blank in this field.)

12. Click Okay.
13. Click Apply.
14. Click Okay to return to the "Connect To" dialogue box.
15. You are now ready to enter your Access
Technology
login information:
a. In the "User name" field type your Access Technology Email address: username@i-c.net.
Remember, your username is case sensitive.
b. In the "Password" field type your Access Technology password. (The random set of
letters, numbers, and symbols given to you when you
signed up.)
Remember your password is case sensitive.

III. YOU ARE NOW READY TO CONNECT
TO Access Technology!
1. Click the Connect button to connect.
Your modem will dial. Windows will update you on the connection process. Once
you are connected the connection icon will typically minimize itself. You will
see two connected computers on your Task Bar, indicating you are connected.
You may now use your web browser, check email or do anything else that requires
an Internet connection.
NOTE: If you have not yet configured your email client for Access Technology you will
need to do this as well.

2. If your Internet applications do not automatically hang up the connection
when you close them, remember to manually disconnect when you are done.
To Disconnect:
a. Double click on the two computers (icon) on your taskbar. (Normally on the
lower right-hand side of your screen.)
A dialogue box opens.
b. Click the Disconnect button.
