Verify Your Dial-Up
Networking Settings.
- Click on Start go to Settings and click on Dial-Up
Networking.
- Click once on the connection icon you wish to change,
and from the File menu, choose Properties.
- In the Phone Number text box, type your local
dial-up access number.
Remember to check
with your local telephone company to make sure that the
number you choose is a local toll-free call.
Click on
Networking. Only options you want check are Enable
Software Compression and TCP/IP. If either of
these is not check please check them and also uncheck
anything else.
Click on TCP/IP
Settings. You should have Server Assigned IP Address
dotted along with Server Assigned Name Server Addresses.
There should also be a check in both Use IP Header
Compression and Use Default Gateway on Remote
Networks.
Once these
settings have been verified click OK on all screens
that where opened.
Verify Your
Network Protocols.
- Click on Start
go to Settings and click on Control Panel.
- Scroll down and
double click on Network.
- In the box
labeled The Following Network Protocols are Installed
you should have the following.
a. Client For Microsoft Networks
b. Dial-Up Adapter
c. TCP/IP
- If any of these
is missing install them by following the directions below.
Installing
Network Protocols. In order to install these protocols you
will need your windows installation CD. Please make sure you
have this handy before proceeding.
Add Client
for Microsoft Networks
- Click the Add button.
- Select Client.
- Click the Add button.
- From the Manufacturers: list, select Microsoft.
- From the Network Clients: list, select Client
for Microsoft Networks.
- Click the OK button.
Add TCP/IP
- Click the Start button point to Settings
and choose Control Panel.
- Click the Network icon.
- Select the Configuration tab.
- Click the Add button.
- Select Protocol.
- Click the Add button.
- From the Manufactures: list, choose Microsoft.
- From the Network Protocol: list, choose TCP/IP.
- Click the OK button.
